Patriots labeled as extremists...

Radical Leftist group smears veterans, Oath Keepers, and patriots as 'extremists'

by: J. D. Heyes

Men and women who serve America in the armed forces are some of the most honorable, selfless citizens we have, but to one left-wing hatemonger, they are among the most dangerous and should not be trusted.

The professional "radical" feels the same about "patriots" -- men and women who revere the Constitution, the rule of law and equal justice for all. Ditto for "Oath Keepers" -- an organization made up of current and former military, police and first responders "who pledge to fulfill the oath all military and police take to 'defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic'" (Oath Keepers make that pledge to the Constitution, not to politicians).

To lawyer Mark Potok, the hack and Leftist activist who has long been associated with the hard-Left group Southern Poverty Law Center, which bills itself as "an American nonprofit legal advocacy organization specializing in civil rights and public interest litigation," Americans who stand up for our founding principles are the enemy.

Yet, to the notoriously left-wing mainstream media, Potok is a regular, an "expert" who is generally trotted out whenever the subject turns to "right-wing extremism," which is often.

Patriots are dangerous?

As noted by NewsBusters.org, a division of the non-profit Media Research Center, it doesn't matter that Potok sees such extremism under every rock; it doesn't matter that he has been consistently wrong about those he claims are enemies of the State; it doesn't matter that his "evidence" is non-existent and based primarily on what he thinks and believes -- the MSM features him often because he's good at what he does: spreading hate, propaganda and misinformation.

"The fact that he is consistently wrong about, well, just about everything -- from the political views of the supposed right wingers to the supposedly violent nature of conservative groups to the mere presence of violent crime -- does not seem to dissuade Old Media from using him to smear conservatives," Newsbusters.org notes.

Potok's most recent cause celebre is the Oath Keepers organization, whose members have merely pledged not to follow any orders that would usurp the constitutional rights of all Americans of all races, ethnicity, religions, beliefs and sexual preferences (real radical stuff!).

In an interview recently with Newsweek for a piece entitled "A Surge of Hate" (easy to figure out the tone of this piece of "objective journalism, huh?), Potok painted Oath Keepers with his usual hateful broad brush, declaring the group to be "a particularly worrisome example of the 'patriot' revival."

"Hack" not an "expert"

As Newsbusters.org notes further:

The SPLC defines a 'patriot' group not as one that is, you know, patriotic, but as a group full of wacko conspiracy theorists who think the federal government is trying to impose a so-called New World Order, often with one global government.

As the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) -- an organization that has called for immigration limits and the enforcement of current immigration law -- has stated, Potok's hateful ire has also been directed at so-called "hate groups," a term Potok's organization contrived, which is essentially any organization that does not toe the left-wing ideological line on any political issue.

"The latest 'hate group' report issued by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) demonstrates once again that the SPLC is neither a reliable source of information nor an 'objective observer' in the immigration policy debate. The latest report issued by the SLPC is long on rhetoric and allegations and short of facts," FAIR notes in its analysis of the SPLC's latest broadside against Americans whose only crime is that they love their country and its constitutional form of government.

Of course, for Potok, only right-leaning, conservative movements and organizations are a threat -- not left-leaning groups that actually commit acts of terror like members of Greenpeace, the Animal Liberation Front and the Earth First! movement.

That makes him a "hack," not an "expert."
