“We want criminals to fear the public being armed,” Short said. “An armed society is a polite society.”

Could fake mass shootings help end ‘gun-free’ stupidity?

In an effort to bring attention to how gun-free zones attract mass shooters, 2nd Amendment advocates in Texas are planning to stage a fake mass shooting at the University of Texas at Austin.

Matthew Short, a spokesman for the gun rights groups Come and Take It Texas and DontComply.com, said actors will play the role of victims, rescuers and gunmen armed with cardboard weapons.

“It’s a fake mass shooting, and we’ll use fake blood,” he told the Austin American-Statesman.

The gun rights advocates’ goal is to shock school officials into realizing just how vulnerable people are when they rely solely on the state to keep them safe.

“Criminals that want to do evil things and commit murder go places where people are not going to be able to stop them,” Short said. “When seconds count, the cops are minutes away.”

Despite protests from anti-gun activists, the Texas Legislature has voted to allow college students and employees to carry concealed handguns on campuses in the state.

The new law, which goes into effect next year, allows students who are at least 21 years old and licensed to carry concealed handguns to bring those weapons into state campus buildings, although private institutions will be able to opt out.

Only university hospitals and athletic facilities will remain off limits to guns.

But anti-2nd Amendment crusaders have spent the past several months lobbying college officials in the state to enact highly restrictive campus policies that would make it difficult for students to carry firearms for self-defense.

For Short and other concealed carry proponents, that’s a problem.

“We want criminals to fear the public being armed,” Short said. “An armed society is a polite society.”

“We love freedom and we’re trying to make more freedom,” he said.
