The State of the Union Speech Obama Should Have Given
by Jacob G. Hornberger

My fellow Americans, the current state of the United States is a disaster.

The federal government continues with its out-of-control spending binge, on both the welfare state and the warfare state.

The federal government is going deeper and deeper into debt, much as Greece and Puerto Rico did before going broke.

An ever-growing number of Americans have become hopelessly dependent on Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, farm subsidies, corporate bailouts, and other largess from the welfare state, much as drug addicts become addicted to heroin.

The Federal Reserve has inflated a new bubble in the American economy, which is certain to burst, just like the last one did.

The decades-old drug war continues to produce death, destruction, violence, corruption, and ruination of lives.

The decades-old war on immigrants continues to wreak death and misery to innocent people and continues to produce a police-state environment on our southern border.

The minimum wage and other economic regulations continue to consign countless Americans to unemployment.

The IRS continues to terrorize the American people, with its ever-present threat of audits and criminal prosecutions.

The national-security establishment continues to kill and maim countless people on a daily basis. A Cold War relic, it has become the biggest terrorist-producing machine in history.

The American people now rank as the most frightened people in the world, more eager than ever to surrender their liberties to the federal government in return for being kept safe.

The state of the union is an absolute mess, ridden with perpetual chaos and crises.

It is time to admit the obvious: It was a disastrous mistake for Americans to adopt a welfare-state way of life and a warfare-state way of life. We would have been much better off building on what our American ancestors had accomplished: a way of life with no income taxation, IRS, Federal Reserve, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, farm subsidies, education grants, corporate bailouts, and other welfare-state programs and a way of life with no national-security establishment, standing army, military-industrial complex, CIA, NSA, foreign interventionism, torture, foreign aid, assassinations, and support of foreign dictatorships.

Therefore, I am today asking Congress to do the following:

Immediately repeal all welfare-state programs, beginning with the biggest ones — Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, and then all the rest of them.

Immediately repeal all economic regulations, beginning with the minimum wage.

Immediately repeal the federal income tax and abolish the IRS.

Immediately repeal all drug laws.

Immediately repeal all legal-tender laws and abolish the Federal Reserve.

Immediately repeal all restrictions of the fundamental right of people to travel into and out of the United States and to freely trade with others.

Immediately withdraw all troops from foreign lands, bring them home, and discharge them. Close America’s empire of military bases, both foreign and domestic. Abolish the Pentagon and sell off the building. Dismantle America’s Cold-War era standing army and military-industrial complex.

Immediately abolish the CIA and the NSA. Like the other aspects of the national-security state, they too are inherent to totalitarian regimes and have no place in a free society.

I am also sending the following constitutional amendments to Congress for approval and sending to the states:

No law shall be enacted, either at the federal or state level, respecting the establishment or regulation of commerce or abridging the free exercise thereof.

No law shall be enacted, either at the federal or state level, respecting the establishment or regulation of money or abridging the free exercise thereof.

No law shall be enacted, either at the federal or state level, respecting the establishment or regulation of charity or abridging the free exercise thereof.

No law shall be enacted, either at the federal or state level, abridging the fundamental rights of freedom of travel, economic liberty, and freedom of association.

No law shall be enacted, either at the federal or state level, respecting the regulation of what people ingest or abridging the free exercise thereof.

The Interstate Commerce Clause is hereby abolished.

Standing armies and intelligence agencies during times of peace are prohibited.

The income tax, tariffs, and other coercive means of funding for the federal government are prohibited. The federal government shall depend solely on monies raised on a voluntary basis.

My fellow Americans, given the mess our nation is in, it’s time that we apologize to the libertarians of our country for not having listened to them sooner. But thanks to them, we are now getting our nation back on the right road. Please write your congressman today and tell him you support my efforts to restore liberty, prosperity, and harmony to our land. God bless America.
